Schwing Stetter, the company that manufactures equipment that pump concrete, on Monday announced the launch of two new products, aimed at high-rise construction.
When you are building a, say, 5-storey building, you put up hoists that take buckets of concrete up. However, if you are building skyscrapers, beyond 100 metres in height, this method of taking concrete up will be both cumbersome and time consuming.
Rise of high-rises
Schwing Stetter's machines pump the concrete up, and poured where required by ‘booms'.
High-rise buildings are beginning to happen in India. According to Mr Anand Sundaresan, Managing Director, Schwing Stetter (India), there are about 35 projects coming up in Mumbai that are over 250 metres in height.
The ‘SP 2880 machine can pump concrete vertically up to a height of 250 metres. The machine costs Rs 80 lakh. The SP 8800, which comes with a price tag of Rs 1.5 crore, can take concrete right up to 500 metres.
At a press conference here, Mr Sundaresan said that Schwing Stetter would import these products initially, but would strive to indigenise. At the most possible level of indigenisation, the costs could come down by 40 per cent, at current prices, he said.
