Sentosa eyes Mangalore coastline for island resort investment

Sentosa Development Corporation, the promoters of Sentosa Island in Singapore, have expressed interest in investing in Karnataka.

Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries, Mr Murgesh R. Nirani said the delegation to Singapore met senior officials of Sentosa Corporation and offered land in and around Mangalore for the resort.

“The talks were preliminary in nature and senior officials of Sentosa Development Corporation will tour the State in a few weeks to study the location and assess the investment potential,” he added.

Sentosa is a leading leisure destination and Singapore's premier island resort getaway, located within 15 minutes from the central business and shopping districts. The island resort is managed by Sentosa Development Corporation, which works with various stakeholders in overseeing property investments, attractions development, and operation of the various leisure offerings and management of the residential precinct on the island.

Principal Secretary, Tourism, Ms Latha Krishna Rau made a detailed presentation on the tourism sector and explained the opportunities available for investment in tourism sector in the state.

Sentosa Development Corporation is willing to invest minimum of Rs 250 crore for a project.

‘Sister Country'

Mr Nirani said Singapore has expressed keen interest to partner with Karnataka. The country has chosen the State as its ‘Sister Country'. Both Karnataka and Singapore are to sign an MoU shortly to this effect.

“Details of the MoU are being drafted by our High Commission in Singapore,” he added.

The road show in Singapore, organised at Hotel Mandarin Oriental, attracted about 100 investors.

Mr Nirani said the State's potential in wind energy and opportunities for investing in aerospace, automobile and pharma industries among others, were highlighted.
