Retail chain Shoppers Stop has entered into an exclusive strategic partnership with e-commerce firm Snapdeal to expedite its omni channel strategy.

Under the deal, Shoppers Stop will set up its department store on Snapdeal’s marketplace to get a pan India reach.

Customers making purchases on Shoppers Stop’s e-store on Snapdeal will be able to pick up the products or have them delivered from the nearest Shoppers Stop brick-and-mortar store. A pilot is being launched in the North, after which it will be extended nationwide within a year.

Shoppers Stop Managing Director Govind Shrikhande said: “With our own e-commerce site, we would have reached out to a small segment. But with this strategic association with Snapdeal, we will be able to reach a larger population online.”

Kunal Behl, co-founder and CEO, Snapdeal, said: “We will help Shoppers Stop expand its reach through our presence across 5,000-plus cities and towns.”

Earlier, Shoppers Stop was selling only its private labels through Snapdeal but now it is extending the rest of its merchandise across categories from footwear to accessories.

“We had targeted 10 per cent of our sales from online in the next three years. But with this strategic tie-up with Snapdeal, we expect faster and higher returns from our e-commerce business. While Snapdeal would bring in access and technology, we will be lending the strength of our brand on its marketplace,” added Shrikhande.
