Operations at Siemens Ltd’s two greenfield factories in Goa, established at an investment of about Rs 200 crore to meet the needs of power distribution industries and utilities, have begun, the company said in a statement to the stock exchanges today.
The products manufactured included medium voltage gas-insulated switchgears of up to 36kV, primary distribution switchgears, locally developed products like Ring Main Units (RMU) and Compact Substations (CSS) for power distribution, numerical protection relays etc. The factories would have their own in-house research and development units.
With the commissioning of the new units, the number of Siemens’ units in the country go up to 21.
While the Energy Automation factory was the first outside Europe established by Siemens and third in its fold after Germany and the UK, the medium voltage factory would be its third after Germany and China. Both factories were built as green factories with several eco-friendly features such as ground water recharging, energy conservation through energy efficient lighting, solar technology for street lighting, etc.
