Industrialist G.S.Raju passed away after prolonged illness at a hospital in Hyderabad. He was 93.
He is known to all as SIRIS Raju, for the company South India Research Institute Private Limited, founded by him in 1966.
Born in Juvvalapalem in West Godavari district, he did his MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of California, San Francisco.
He was Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council during 1958-64 when Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was the Chief Minister of the state.
Raju, a pioneer in the pharmaceutical industry, was also instrumental in its development in the state.
Under his leadership, SIRIS was the first company in India to manufacture Analgin. His accent was on to cut costs.
