Skoda Auto India on Thursday raised hikes across its product range by 2.2 – 5.1 per cent. The new prices are in line with changing market conditions and would be effective immediately, said the company in a news release.

With the increase in prices, the Skoda Fabia range will now start at Rs 4.6 lakh, while the Rapid range, which was launched towards the end of 2011, will start at Rs 6.9 lakh. Both are up by around Rs 10,000.

The Laura range will now start at Rs 12.9 lakh (up Rs 20,000) and the Yeti at Rs 13.9 lakh (up Rs 30,000). The flagship Superb has seen the highest increase from Rs 18.8 lakh at Rs 19.6 lakh.

Skoda is the third car manufacturer after Tata Motors and Honda to increase prices after the Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, increased excise duty from 10 to 12 per cent.

Excise duties for petrol cars with engine capacity under 1,200 cc and for diesel cars with capacity under 1,500 cc, but length exceeding four metres was raised from 22 to 24 per cent with a fixed duty of Rs 15,000.

Petrol cars with engine capacity over 1,200 cc and diesel cars with capacity over 1,500 cc, with length exceeding four metres will be charged an ad valorem duty of 27 per cent hike from the earlier 22 per cent along with a fixed duty of Rs 15,000.
