Skoda Auto India on Wednesday launched its mid-sized sedan, Rapid, priced between Rs 6.75 lakh and Rs 9.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
“This C-segment car has eight variants and bridges the gap between compact car, Fabia, and the sedan, Laura,” Mr Tarun Jha, Marketing Head, Skoda Auto India, told reporters here.
The car is available in both petrol and diesel variants and is powered by 1.6 litre engine. It is based on group firm Volkswagen's Vento platform.
“The company hopes to sell 2,000 cars every month with the C-segment likely to grow above 5 per cent this year,” said Mr Ashutosh Dixit, Associate Director (sales and after-sales), Skoda Auto India.
The petrol variant is priced between Rs 6.75 lakh and Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the diesel model is priced at Rs 7.95 lakh to Rs 9.19 lakh (ex- showroom Delhi).
The company is also increasing its dealership network to meet the possible increased demand of the Rapid.
“At present, we have 90 dealerships and it will be increased to about 100 by the end of this year,” Mr Jha said. The company will mainly target tier-II and III cities for expansion of its dealer network, he added.
