Solar module manufacturing capacity in India has grown significantly in recent years and is now 1,300 MW, says Mr Amit Barve, General Manager (India and South East Asia), of the German company, Schott Solar. “This,” Mr Barve said in a recent Webinar organised by the PV Tech magazine, “is in excess of what the domestic market can consume.”
Mr Barve estimates the cell manufacturing capacity in India at 700 MW. He notes that before the advent of the National Solar Mission, Indian manufacturers were heavily dependent on foreign markets, and about 80 per cent of the production was exported. But recent developments have boosted the domestic market, he said.
