Somany Ceramics to invest Rs 70 cr on capex

Leading tiles and sanitary ware manufacturer Somany Ceramics Ltd will invest Rs 70 crore on expanding capacities at its Kadi (Mehsana) facility in Gujarat next year.

The New Delhi-based listed company's current manufacturing capacity at the two existing plants at Kadi and Kassar (Haryana) is 18 million sq.m an annum. Besides, it also outsources 8-9 million sq.m of production of lower segment products to Morbi-based manufacturers in Gujarat.

“The new facility at Kadi, where the company had set up the existing plant in 1981, will add 15,000 sq.m a day of manufacturing capacity for making high-end products in the next two years,” Mr G.G. Trivedi, CEO, told

Business Line . The company has also procured 65,000 sq.m of additional land at Kadi.

Somany Ceramics' turnover in 2010-11 was Rs 710.58 crore with a PAT of Rs 23.43 crore. Aiming to increase turnover to Rs 1,000 crore in the current fiscal, the company is expanding its footprint across India by augmenting the number of its exclusive showrooms from the existing 17 to 50. It opened the first such showroom at Ahmedabad on Saturday and would open two more in the State soon.

Mr Trivedi said these outlets will showcase Somany's as well as products imported from companies in Spain, Italy, Vietnam, Malaysia and China with which the company has entered into tie-ups to market 22 of the best foreign products in India. These would include some imported eco-friendly products as well.

Somany's current growth rate is 35 per centand its all-India market share in the organised sector is about 9 per cent, he added.
