Sony on Wednesday became the latest entrant to join the sub -10,000 range smartphone market with the launch of entry level Xperia Tipo phone.
“Mobile has been an integral part of the brand’s growth in India and we are working together to deliver products that are relevant for Indian consumers,” Sony India Managing Director Kenichiro Hibi told reporters here.
At Rs 9,999, Tipo is the cheapest phone from Xperia series and the company is planning 6—8 new models in the coming six months across price bands, which may include a few in the sub—10,000 category.
Hibi said this year, the company would try to achieve a growth of 45 per cent for Sony India while for mobile, the growth could be over 50 per cent.
