Playstation-maker Sony plans to launch low-cost PC games. The existing Playstation games (CDs) are available at a starting rate of Rs 1,500, while consoles (that include the controls), is available at nearly Rs 20,000.
Playstation (PS) is a series of PC games that can be played on the PC through consoles and also on hand-held devices. It competes globally with Microsoft’s X-Box and Nintendo.
“Although the company is planning to reduce the price of the games, console prices will remain same,” Mr Atindriya Bose, country manager, Playstation, Sony Computer Entertainment, said.
Other than PSP, Sony games are available on the PS2 and PS3 (console-based) platforms. Of the Rs 600 crore gaming market in India, Sony has a market share of 80 per cent.
Advertising, branding
He added that the company was spending around Rs 25 crore on advertisements and another Rs 12.5 on branding the 250-odd points of sales. Of these, 150 are shop-in-shop formats in Sony standalone stores, the remaining 100 are in large format retail stores.
India-specific offerings
According to Mr Bose, the company will also introduce two India-specific offerings — Street Cricket and a motion-sensor enabled cricket game — on its console based platform this year.
