South Korean automobile manufacturer SsangYong Motor’s total vehicle sales rose 6.8 per cent in 2012 to 1,20,717 units from that a year ago.
The company, in which India’s Mahindra & Mahindra owns a majority stake, sold 47,700 vehicles in the domestic market and exported 73,017 units during the year, it said in a statement.
The automaker’s global sales for December 2012 stood at 11,871 units, with domestic sales at 5,365 units and exports at 6,506 vehicles.
“It is a very meaningful accomplishment that the company achieved the highest growth among the domestic and imported automakers despite a sluggish global economy. We will further increase our global sales through differentiated marketing strategy and reinforced export product line up, continuously,” Ssangyong Motor Chief Executive Officer Lee Yoo-il said.
The company’s sales exceeded 10,000 vehicles for four consecutive months, while its exports to the Russian market stood at 32,328 vehicles.
