Sterlite Power, one of India’s largest private sector players in the power transmission space, has bagged a fresh $600-million order in Brazil. This takes company’s investments in Brazilian transmission sector over $2 billion spread across 10 projects, the company said.
Sterlite Power emerged the winner for Lot 13 in the recent auction for transmission projects conducted by Brazil’s Electric Energy Regulator ANEEL. “The project will require an investment of $0.6 billion over the period of next 3-5 years in Rio Grande do Sul, south region of the country,” the company said in a statement.
Previously, Sterlite Power has bagged few projects in ANEEL’s auctions conducted in April and December 2017 and in June 2018. Most of the projects auctioned are to be implemented between 2018 and 2022, while the transmission licences awarded will be valid for 30 years.
Rui Chammas, Sterlite Power CEO in Brazil, said, “I must congratulate ANEEL for providing a visible pipeline of projects and for the transparent way of conducting these auctions. Sterlite Power is committed to delivering these projects ahead of schedule by leveraging a network of partners and a top-class local team.”
Sterlite Power has earlier this year projected it would invest up to $4 billion in Brazil by 2022. Apart from Sterlite, several other Indian power transmission companies, including the government-owned Power Grid Corporation of India, Adani Transmission, KEC International, have been lately exploring the Brazilian transmission market.
