Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (Visakhapatnam Steel Plant) has won the ‘IIM National Sustainability Award 2011' among all the integrated steel plants in the country. The award is instituted by the ferrous division of the Indian Institute of Metals, according to a RINL press release.
The award was presented by Mr P.K Misra, Secretary (Steel), to Mr A.P. Choudhary, CMD Chairman and Managing Director of RINL, at a function during the 49th National Metallurgists Day (NMD) on Monday in Hyderabad.
Mr Umesh Chandra, Director (Operations) of RINL, also participated in the event. RINL was given the award based on the performance and achievements during 2010-11.
On the production front, RINL-VSP achieved capacity utilisation of 113 per cent, 114 per cent and 116 per cent in hot metal, liquid steel and saleable steel respectively. Production in all major units exceeded the rated capacity for the tenth consecutive year. RINL registered a record turnover of Rs 11,517 crore during 2010-11.
Mr A.C.R Das, industrial advisor to the Union Ministry of Steel, Mr M. Narayana Rao, President of the IIM, and Dr Malakondaiah, Director of Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, and Mr H.M Nerurkar, Managing Director of Tata Steel and Vice-President of IIM, attended the function.
