Suzlon Energy has informed the Udupi district administration that it will start dialogue with workers at its rotor blade manufacturing unit at the Padubidri Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the district on November 30.
Priyanka Mary Francis, Udupi Deputy Commissioner (DC), told BusinessLine that the district administration has received a mail from the company stating that it will start dialogue with the labourers from November 30 onwards.
However, she told the company not to wait till then and to start the dialogue with the labourers from next Monday only, Francis said.
While suspending the operations at the plant on November 14, the company had posted a notice at the site which said: “In accordance with provisions of Sub Section 2 of Section 22 of Industrial Disputes Act 1947, we hereby, give notice to all concerned that it is our intention to effect lockout for all workers whose names are mentioned in Annexure 2 to this notice with effect from November 29, 2017, for the reasons explained in Annexure 1. In the meanwhile, the management has decided to suspend its operations from today (November 14).”
The notice also stated that workers had indulged in ‘severe go-slow tactics’ over the last seven months, resulting in production loss to the extent of more than 60 per cent.
The workers at the rotor blade manufacturing unit went on strike on November 14 and 15 following the suspension of the operations at the plant.
