Suzuki Motor Corporation Chairman & CEO Osamu Suzuki is likely to meet Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi here next week and review the progress of Rs 4,000 crore investment plan in the state by its subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India (MSI).
“SMC’s CEO is likely to meet the Chief Minister on August 24,” an industry department official told PTI. He said the construction of the plant at Mandal taluka, 110 kms away from here, will start after Suzuki’s visit to the state.
Country’s largest car manufacturer MSI plans to pump in Rs 4,000 crore — its biggest investment outside Haryana — by 2015-16. The overall capacity in the first phase will be 2.5 lakh units.
Besides MSI, component suppliers are likely to make an equal amount of investment in the state.
Suzuki’s India visit from August 22 coincides with MSI resuming production at its violence-hit Manesar plant in Haryana on August 21.
After the violence at Manesar plant, there was a speculation that MSI may shift to Gujarat. However, the company had already made it clear that there was no such plan to shift Manesar facility to Gujarat.
Suzuki’s visit to Gujarat follows Modi’s trip to Japan last month seeking investment from Japanese companies.
The state government has already allotted two parcels of land to MSI, measuring 160 hectares 70 hectares.
An exclusive vendor park for Japanese industrial houses is also proposed near Mandal.
