Suzuki enters premium bike segment with Gixxer SF 250 at ₹1.7 lakh

Taking a cue from its competitors, two-wheeler manufacturer Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) on Monday entered the premium motorcycle segment with the launch of the Gixxer SF 250, priced at ₹1,70,655 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

It also launched the 150 cc Gixer SF, priced at ₹1,09,870 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Gixxer SF 250 will be available only at ‘Suzuki Premium’ outlets, said the company. Hero MotoCorp had recently launched the Xtreme 200S, a full-faired motorcycle with a more ‘sporty’ character and various new elements to the 200cc segment.

Rival products

Competing with these are products from Bajaj Auto (Pulsar), Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (CBR 250R) and TVS Motor Company (Apache).

The Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 is powered by a 249cc, four-stroke, one-cylinder engine and has a six-speed transmission system. It has an engine output of 26.5 ps @ 9,000 rpm and torque of 22.6 Nm @ 7,500 rpm.

The Gixxer SF is powered by a 155cc, four-stroke, one-cylinder engine and has a five-speed transmission system. It has an output of 14.1 ps @ 8,000 rpm and torque of 14 Nm @ 6,000 rpm.

“The Gixxer SF is one of Suzuki’s flagship products in India and increasing its portfolio will allow us to enhance Suzuki’s much-loved brand presence in the country,” said Koichiro Hirao, Head, SMIPL.

The Gixxer SF 250 descends from the makers of legendary motorcycles such as the GSX-R and Hayabusa, he added.

“India is the world’s largest two-wheeler market, and this market has now started demanding premium products, especially above 200cc engine displacement. The Gixxer SF series offers the perfect solution to customers looking for a sports tourer. With this new launch, Suzuki will be able to further enhance its presence in the premium motorcycle segment in the country,” said Devashish Handa, Vice-President, SMIPL.
