The Tamil Nadu Government has announced a Rs 515-crore expansion plan for the Tamil Nadu Cements Corporation.
In the Budget for 2011-12 presented in the Assembly, the Finance Minister, Mr O. Panneerselvam, said Tancem's two cement production facilities at Alangulam and Ariyalur will be expanded to support the growing demand.
The capacity at Alangulam will be doubled to 4 lakh tonnes a year at a cost of Rs 165 crore. The output at the Ariyalur unit will be tripled to 15 lakh tonnes at a cost of Rs 350 crore. The two units now account for 3.6 per cent of the cement produced in the State.
