The automotive component supplier arm of the Tata Group Tata Autocomp Comp Systems Limited has opened a new manufacturing plant in China in Changshu Economic and Development Zone (CEDZ).
Tata AutoComp has invested RMB 20 million in first phase of operation and it will employ 25 people to start with.
This is the second plant set up by the company in China as it already has a wholly owned foreign entity (Nanjing Tata AutoComp Systems) in Nanjing District to supply plastic interior and exterior parts for China and overseas OE customers.
The Changshu plant has commended its production with supplies to Cherry-Jaguar Land Rover Evoque and Discovery programs and will start supplying for Jaguar cars from next year.
The plant is equipped with state of the art robotic welding and final assembly facilities. Tata AutoComp plans to expand its Changshu operation in coming years to set up fully integrated manufacturing plant in Changshu and intends to serve Cherry-Jaguar Land Rover and other important customers from Changshu.
In a press release, R Gopalakrishnan, Chairman Tata AutoComp Systems Limited and Director Tata Sons said, “Tata AutoComp is on its way to become a meaningful entity in China. In 2008, it began with a modest entry in this market through Nanjing Tata AutoComp Systems Limited and today it serves many global automotive OEMs. Today, by inaugurating the second plant at Changshu, Tata AutoComp is reaffirming its commitment to invest and grow in China.”
Ajay Tandon, MD & CEO Tata AutoComp Systems Limited added, “We are committed to grow our presence in China as it plays a vital role in our global business. While our operations in India are focused on serving OEMs in India, our operations in China – both at Nanjing and Changshu are focused at serving OEMs in China as well as exporting to OEMs in Europe and North America.”
