Indicating that Bengal is still on the Tata Group’s radar even after the controversial exit of Tata Motors from Singur, a group company Tata Chemicals on Friday said it had revived the fertiliser expansion project at Haldia.
“We have revived the expansion project for single super phosphate production capacity at the Haldia plant. The project can cost Rs 40 crore and that would capacity,” Tata Chemicals ED & CFO, P K Ghose said.
He was in the city to celebrate platinum jubilee of the company at Haldia factory and launch of Tata Swach RO water purifier.
The decision to revive the project came after partial lifting of the pollution ban at Haldia by the Centre, Haldia plant VP S. Nandy said. The ban restricted companies from expanding their facilities.
Nandy said the comany would require to obtain enviornment clearances from the state and the Centre and that a process in this regard had been initiated.
However, the company could not give any timeline for completion of the project. The expansion of SSP production was under consideration for demand as it is cheaper than other fertilisers. The current SSP capacity at Haldia is 2,00,000 tonnes per annum.
