The Tata Group, on Monday, announced three new aerospace component manufacturing facilities in Hyderabad, a development that will consolidate the city's presence in the global aerospace map.
The three projects are Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructure, a joint venture between Tata Advanced Systems (TAS) and Lockheed Martin; Tata Aerospace Systems, a joint venture between TAS and Sikorsky; and Nova Integrated System, a Tata enterprise.
A subsidiary of Tata Sons, TAS provides integrated solutions for aerospace and Defence sectors, and has a JV with Sikorsky for production of Sikorsky S-92 helicopter cabin at Adibhatla near Hyderabad. In November last year, this project unveiled the first S-92 copter cabin.
The three new projects, all of which will be located in the same area, envisage a total investment of about Rs 1,000 crore, with employment generation potential of 3,000 in the first phase.
The Tata Lockheed project will manufacture aerostructures for the latter's C-130 aircraft, while Tara Aerospace will produce components for Sikorsky in India, including components for S-92 cabins. Nova will set up an integrated aerospace complex for high-end precision electronics manufacturing, assembly and integration of airborne vehicles.
“All three projects will be completed by 2011-end,” a senior Tata official said.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, inaugurated the ground-breaking ceremony for the three projects, in the presence of Mr S. Ramadorai, Chairman, TAS, and senior officials of Tata's joint venture partners.
