Tata Motors on Thursday launched 10 new heavy commercial vehicles from its Prima LX range – six in the haulage segment and four in the construction segment — priced between ₹18.50 lakh and ₹32.50 lakh. The launches come at a time when commercial vehicle sales have been falling for nearly 24 months now.
The new range is around 20 per cent cheaper than the Prima range of trucks, which were launched by Tata Motors in 2009.
Ranging from 25 tonnes to 49 tonnes, these trucks have different combinations of drivelines and load bodies, deployed across all possible applications, the company said.
“The Prima LX range is one such instance of a world-class offering adapted for Indian conditions, redefining customer experience with enhanced technologies, built to global standards with an ideal blend of technology and economy,” said Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director – Commercial Vehicles.
The company conceived the Prima in 2008 with an effort to bring the ‘world class’ trucks to India with technical inputs from across the world.
For example, it has an Italian cab design, engine technology from the US and Europe, gearbox expertise from Germany and chassis frame from Mexico, he said.
However, these trucks will not be available in Delhi as the engines are based on Bharat Stage-III technology.
Commercial vehicles in Delhi are allowed to ply only with BS-IV certification along with CNG.
With the addition of 10 models, the Prima range now consists of 40 models. Tata Motors rolls out the range from its Jamshedpur plant.
