Tata Motors global vehicle sales fall 4%

JLR Sept sales up in major markets

Tata Motors’ global vehicle sales, including that of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), slid by four per cent in September from the year-ago period.

However, total sales for the calendar year so far have risen eight per cent from last year.

Global sales at the company, including JLR, were at 103,656 vehicles, lower than in September last year.

However, cumulative sales for the fiscal were 579,037 vehicles, higher than in the corresponding period in 2011-12.

Commercial, passenger vehicles

The company said global sales of all commercial vehicles — Tata, Tata Daewoo and the Tata Hispano Carrocera range — were 54,761 units in September, up three per cent over last September. Cumulative sales for the fiscal were at 283,546 vehicles, higher by two per cent over the corresponding previous period.

The company said the global sales number for all passenger vehicles in September was 48,895 units, lower by 11 per cent, though cumulative sales for the fiscal were 295,491, higher by 14 per cent.

Range Rover

In the case of JLR, the company has achieved its best-ever September retail sales figures, with sales up in all major markets.

JLR sold 36,907 vehicles, up 22 per cent against September last year.

Land Rover retailed 30,652 vehicles, an increase of 31 per cent versus last year, reflecting growth in the Range Rover Sport, Discovery and Evoque models.

The all-new Range Rover was recently revealed with first deliveries expected later this year to early next year, the company said.

Jaguar sold 6,255 vehicles, a decrease of seven per cent against last year.

The company said this includes model year changeover timings.

Jaguar is to introduce new powertrains and all-wheel drive versions of its XJ and XF, as well as the XF Sportbrake, towards the end of this year.

Since the beginning of the calendar year, JLR has delivered 269,115 vehicles worldwide — an increase of 37 per cent against the first nine months of last year.

Jaguar delivered 41,867 vehicles, up 11 per cent, and Land Rover delivered 227,248 vehicles, up 44 per cent.
