Tata Motors has planned a passenger car product line-up till 2020 and will launch two new cars every year.
The cars will have some signature features that are normally not present in the same segment cars, and be designed jointly by design studios in India, Italy and the UK, Girish Wagh, Senior Vice-President, Programme Planning and Management, Passenger cars.
The company has also worked with JD Power for feedback on attributes for future generation cars, and collaborated with infotainment system maker Harman for systems that could come at competitive prices in India.
The infotainment system in the company’s newly launched Bolt hatch back, for instance, has a smart link with MapmyIndia with which Tata Motors has a tie-up so that poor connectivity in remote areas will not hamper operations, and features such as voice controlled systems.
Emphasising the focus on the design and styling aspect of their cars, Wagh said Tata Motors had recruited a lot of people in Italy to strengthen the team at Trilix studio it acquired some years ago. A studio has also been set up in the UK.
