Tata Motors has flagged off 123 new AC buses in Ahmedabad, equipped with automatic transmission. These are in addition to an order bagged by the company for 3,200 buses under the JNURM – phase II scheme.
Meant to reduce driver fatigue, and provide a better commute, the automatic transmission buses will also help save on fuel costs.
In a statement, Vernon Noronha, Vice=President, Defence & Government Business, Tata Motors, said, “These air conditioned buses with automatic transmission are most suitable for BRTS operations and have been developed for the first time for Janmarg. With this order, we are proud to partner Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd.”
With a floor height of 900 mm and a length of 12 metres, the new buses have electronic display boards and pneumatic door operations. The other features include wider passage-way, large window panes and lower entry/exit doors.
The buses are built by Tata Marcopolo and are being operated by private operators.
