Tata Motors on Sunday said overall sales of its commercial and passenger vehicles jumped 22 per cent year-on-year to 82,278 units in December, 2011.

“The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for December, 2011, were 76,663 units, higher by 24 per cent over 61,685 units, sold in December last year,” it said in a statement.

However, exports fell to 5,615 vehicles in December last year from 5,809 units in the same period a year ago.

In December, 2011, the company sold 47,747 commercial vehicles in the domestic market.

“Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales were 29,500 units, a growth of 20 per cent compared to 24,558 vehicles sold in December last year. Medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) sales stood at 18,247 units, a growth of 5 per cent, compared to 17,428 vehicles sold in December last year,” the statement added.

Its passenger vehicle business reported total sales and distribution offtake of 29,417 units in the domestic market in December, 2011. This was 47 per cent higher than the 19,973 units sold in December, 2010.

“Sales of Tata passenger vehicles for December, 2011, are at 28,916 units, a growth of 47 per cent over 19,699 units sold in December last year,” it said.

“Sales of the Tata Nano were 7,466 units, higher by 29 per cent compared to 5,784 units, sold in December last year,” it said.
