Tata Power has commissioned the second unit of 525 MW (Unit 2) of its Maithon mega power project in Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
The first unit, also of 525 MW (Unit 1), was commissioned in September 2011.
The Maithon project, in addition to supplying power to Damodar Corporation, will also supply to power-deficit northern states.
The project is a 74:26 joint venture between Tata Power and the Damodar Valley Corporation.
Mr Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Power, said: “This project reiterates a successful public private partnership in power generation in the country.”
