Tata Power said it has installed 36 biogas plants across eight villages at Mundra and Mandvi in Gujarat. The company has a 4,000 MW power plant in Mundra. The biogas units were installed in association with Tata Power Community Development Trust. The cost of each biogas unit is ₹26,200, of which ₹18,000 is invested by Tata Power and ₹8,200 by the local beneficiaries. The project has resulted in a monthly savings of ₹300 to a household, which was earlier spent on firewood and kerosene. A daily input of 40 kg of cow dung generates biogas sufficient for the cooking purpose of a five-six member family. Maintenance of the unit is simple, a release from Tata Power said.
