Tata Power offers AC exchange programme

Tata Power has launched an air-conditioner exchange programme for industrial and commercial customers.

The objective is to promote energy efficiency and reduce consumption.

Tata Power said it has tied up with reputed air-conditioner manufacturers to provide five-star rated units. Customers can avail a 40 per cent discount on the maximum retail price of the star-rated units.

The old units given under exchange will be scrapped.

POWER SAVING

Tata Power said air-conditioners account for a major part of electricity consumption. The latest five-star rated ACs offered under the programme are highly energy efficient and consume 30-40 per cent less power than the old units that are not star-rated.

Tata Power offers online registration and doorstep service for the exchange initiative.

S. Padmanabhan, Executive Director – Operations, Tata Power, said “The exchange programme will help our customers to avail of special discounts for new five star products which will help them to reduce their energy consumption.”

PAYBACK

According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, the efficiency of a five-star AC unit is about 35 per cent higher than single star ones.

In terms of payback for commercial establishments, assuming a five-star rated unit runs 12 hours daily for about 250 days annually, indications are that the payback period of the incremental cost of acquisition (price difference between one and five star units) would be a little over a year, given the higher tariff for commercial and industrial segments.

A similar programme for refrigerators is also in the offing, Padmanabhan said.
