Tata Power has synchronised its second unit of 525 MW at Maithon Mega Power Project in Dhanbad, Jharkhand.
The first unit also of 525 MW was commissioned in September 2011.
Maithon Power is a 74:26 joint venture between Tata Power and Damodar Valley Corporation for the 2 x 525 MW coal-fired power project. It is the first public-private partnership in green field generation project in the country.
Mr Anil Sardana, Managing Director, said, “With this development, Tata Power's gross generation capacity has touched 5,297 MW, reaffirming its contribution as the largest integrated power company in India.”
Tata Power said the Maithon project has fuel supplies from Coal India and its subsidiaries. Bharat Coking Coal and Central Coal Fields are committed to supplying fuel to the project.
Apart from supplying power to the Damodar Valley Corporation, the Maithon project will also feed northern States that have power deficit.
