Tata Chemicals has entered the spices category under its recently launched food brand, Tata Sampann. The company, which has roped in chef Sanjeev Kapoor as its brand ambassador, has launched 10 spice products ranging from chilli and turmeric powder to specific blends, such as dal tadka and Punjabi chole masala. It has also come up with 5-in-1 packs, where each 100-gram pack holds five 20-gram packs of various blended spices.
Said Tata Chemicals MD R Mukundan: “Tata Salt has been trusted by million of consumers and, with Tata Sampann spices, we our strengthening our commitment to provide high-quality products. We aim to treble revenues to ₹5,000 crore in five years by entering new product categories under Tata Sampann.”
Spices are expected to contribute 10-15 per cent to its consumer product revenues in the next five years. At present it makes revenues of about ₹1,500 crore from the segment.
Farm impact Among spices, the company will look at categories that make up the Indian thali and help impact the farm end by increasing productivity, said Mukundan. The company is already present in the branded pulses segment.
Tata Sampann spices will be available across North India by the end of the year. The company will look at phased expansion with regional variations in the western, eastern and southern markets. Richa Arora, COO, Consumer Product Businesss at Tata Chemicals, said the company will look at leveraging Tata Salt’s distribution network.
