Tata Sky has recently issued a disconnection notice for Mukesh Ambani-promoted TV18 Broadcast’s bouquet of channels and Turner International India channels through newspaper ads.
In its public notice, the DTH operator has said that TV18 and Turner channels, which are distributed by IndiaCast, will cease to be carried on its platform by September 24, due to failure of mutual understanding to renew the agreement between the parties. This notice for discontinuing 56 channels, created a buzz on social media.
As per TRAI norms, platforms and broadcasters should issue such caution or public notices to inform subscribers well in advance regarding any such changes in their bouquet offerings. This is not the first time platforms and broadcasters have reached a deadlock over revenue sharing negotiations.
But in this case, it has attracted more attention as Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio has JioTV app which enables Jio customers to view TV channels and programmes on their smartphones and tablets and they can watch live and recorded programme.
