Tata Steel sales in the December quarter were up 9 per cent at 2.07 million tonnes (mt) against 1.89 mt achieved in the same period last year.
Production increased 4 per cent to 2.15 mt (2.07 mt) as flat product output hit the best-ever mark of 1.48 mt. The previous best of 1.46 mt was achieved in the fourth quarter of last fiscal.
Tata Steel has been ramping up output at the recently added 3 mt capacity at its Jamshedpur plant. The pellet plant reached its rated capacity in the December quarter and has produced over 3.1 mt of pellet in the past three quarters, said the company.
The new blast furnace produced 2.3 mt of hot metal this fiscal. The new steel plant and the TSCR (thin slab casting and rolling) unit reached their rated capacity in the December quarter and have produced 1.6 mt so far this fiscal, said Tata Steel.
The company’s shares were up 0.48 per cent at Rs 386 on Monday on the BSE.
