The Tamil Nadu Government has brought the DTH (Direct To Home) satellite television services and the Indian Premier League under the purview of the Tamil Nadu Entertainment Tax.

The move will net the State Government nearly Rs 90 crore annually, according to sources in the know.

The amendments to the Tamil Nadu Entertainment Tax Rules were notified with effect from September 27, 2011 following statutory approvals.

DTH services providers and IPL will now have to register with the Tamil Nadu commercial taxes authorities. IPL faces a 25 per cent tax and DTH services providers 30 per cent.
