Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that it has sold over one lakh units of its premium SUV, Toyota Fortuner, since its launch in the country in 2009.

The Fortuner has maintained its number one position in its segment, where SUVs are priced between ₹15 lakh and ₹25 lakh.

The recently launched all-new Fortuner has also contributed to its growth and helped Toyota up its ante in the premium SUV segment.

During April-November of this fiscal, the Fortuner segment reported total sales of 11,711 units, of which the Fortuner accounted for 5,524 units with a share of 47 per cent.

“Being able to serve more than one lakh happy customers in this premium and competitive segment is a huge achievement for us. This would not have been possible without the support of our customers, who have appreciated the product,” N. Raja, Director & Senior Vice-President, Marketing & Sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said in a statement.

The new Fortuner has received over 6,000 booking orders within the first few weeks of its launch. The company sold close to 2,000 units of the new Fortuner last month, clocking more than 80 per cent growth when compared to the numbers sold in the corresponding period in 2015.

“We still have close to 5,000 pending orders, which we are trying to deliver to our customers at the earliest possible,” said Raja.

The company hopes that with the all-new second generation Fortuner, it will be able to further build the brand’s success story in India.

The new Toyota Fortuner, launched in November 2016, is proving to be a popular choice as a family vehicle as well as an off-roader, according to the company.
