By making foray into male scooter segment with the launch of Jupiter, TVS Motor Company is aiming to achieve a sale of 50,000 units of its entire scooter portfolio in a month, within a year, a top company official said today.
Jupiter, the first product targeting male segment, would help the company add about 15,000 to 16,000 units to its total sales of the present 35,000 units a month, down a year, said P G Satishkumar, General Manager, Sales, TVS Motors.
The company, which has about 15 per cent market share in the scooters segment, is confident of increasing it by four to five per cent with the launch of Jupiter, he said, adding male scooter segment accounted for nearly 36 per cent of total scooter sales across the country.
The female single use scooter accounted for 29 per cent and dual usage - both by male, female and family, - accounted for 35 per cent, he said.
Stating that the scooter segment recorded a 14.3 per cent year—on—year growth during April—June, following new launches, he said it has registered a growth of over 20 per cent in July—September.
Manufactured at its Hosur unit, the Jupiter is priced at Rs 50,220 in Tamil Nadu, which was a good market for the company, Satishkumar added.
