With the favourable environment for the two-wheeler industry expected to come back soon, Chennai based two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motor Company has said it targets to sell two-lakh units per month from next financial year. “We saw some improvement to the industry in the last two-three months, post monsoon and festive season and hopefully that will continue in the beginning of the next (financial) year. We expect to sell more mopeds, scooters and motorcycles from next financial year,” JS Srinivasan, Vice President - Sales, TVS Motor Company said.
Number talkSrinivasan said that the company is selling around 55,000 units of mopeds, 40,000 units of scooters and 60,000 units of motorcycles per month right now. The company plans to achieve 70,000 units, 65,000 units and around 70,000 units for mopeds, scooters and motorcycles respectively. As per the company’s latest release, it sold 156,138 units in January, five per cent up as against 154,107 units sold in the same month last year in the domestic market.
New modelsTo achieve the target, the company will launch Start City motorcycle and Scooty Zest in April, followed by upgrades of motorcycles such as Apache and Phoenix, and scooters such as Jupiter, Wego and Streak.
Srinivasan said TVS Motor will also expand its dealer network during this calendar year and will reach up to around 930 in the country from around 850 right now. Apart from these dealers, the company has around 2,700 sub-dealers to address the needs in rural areas with service points.
“The demand from tier-III and IV cities are also growing and the customers are expecting for easy access to sales and services and therefore we are going for expansions in new areas,” he added.
