TVS Motor has launched the Scooty Zest 110, targeting young women looking for a powerful scooter with good mileage.
“This is a young women’s product,” said Chairman Venu Srinivasan.
While Wego is for women in the age group of 25 to 28, the Zest 110 is for the 18-25 age group, he told newspersons at the launch of the new vehicle.
The Zest 110 is priced at ₹42,300 (ex-showroom in Delhi). It is available in four metallic colours—turquoise blue, volcano red, black and pearl white.
The larger zippy, refined 109.7cc engine enables an initial pick-up of 0-60 kmph in 11.1 seconds. Some of the vehicle’s features include a backlit speedometer, new LED tail lamps, twilight lamps, a textured floor board, painted switch panes, leaf-shaped mirrors and a compact muffler with stainless steel guard, says a press release.
The Scooty Pep and Streek are in the lower price range. The company started as a moped manufacturer but went on to produce motorcycles and scooters.
The scooter segment is the fastest growing among the two-wheeler category with nearly 26 per cent market share. This is likely to peak around 30 per cent, said Srinivasan.
In the first month of launching the Zest 110, the company plans to sell around 10,000 units, he said.
According to KN Radhakrishnan, President & CEO, TVS Motor, the new launch will help the company increase its market share in the scooter segment to 17-18 per cent from the present 15 per cent. While the scooter industry is growing at nearly 35 per cent, the company in this category is growing at nearly 50 per cent, he said. Every month, around 3.50 lakh scooters are sold. Of this, nearly 55,000 units are sold by TVS Motor, he added.
The cost of developing the new vehicle was around ₹75 crore. This includes spending on sales and marketing.
The Zest 110 will be manufactured at the company’s Mysore plant, he said.
