TVS Motor Company (TVSM) is gearing up to co-create curriculum with academia to enhance employability standards.

Inking an agreement with the Dr Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology here today, V Kovaichelvan, Senior Vice-President (Human Resources), TVSM, said while there is no dearth of talent pool, employability is an issue that the company seeks to address.

“We decided to collaborate with academia for designing an outcome-based curriculum as the present system is input-based. Such Collaborative Educational Programmes would give more clarity to the college and also at the student level.”

He underscored the need for making the curriculum relevant to jobs/ careers and not remaining merely bookish.

M Manickam, Chairman, MCET, said the programme has been designed to meet the HR needs of TVSM. “Today, there is a greater need to redefine the role of teaching, learning, research, and application at the academic level to compete globally and such collaborative programmes help provide a conducive environment to achieve the same.”

The TVSM – MCET partnership aims at bridging the gap between the quality of engineers expected by industry and the graduating engineers.

TVSM will provide industry-internship to students as part of the course, besides offering special training to the faculty as well, Kovaichelvan said.

Asked if the company is looking to tie up with more colleges in such collaborative educational programmes, he said “the manufacturing industry's manpower requirement is not as huge as in the IT sector, but the investment on the candidate (be it towards training or imparting specialised skills) is huge. We will probably enter into an agreement with five–six colleges in the country.”
