On 2 July, over 20 million Indians will wake up to the news of safe, reliable, convenient transportation arriving at their doorsteps. Uber expands its footprint in the Indian market with a simultaneous launch in 7 new cities - Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Indore, Mysore, Nagpur, Surat and Visakhapatnam.
This is the largest number of new international cities Uber has ever launched simultaneously, underscoring its commitment to transforming urban mobility across India, the company said in a statement.
With this launch, Uber is now in 18 cities in the sub-continent, making India its largest geographic market outside the US.
“We are thrilled to launch Uber in these 7 cities, which marks the start of the next chapter in our journey in India. The rapid 40 per cent month-on-month growth we continue to see in India is unprecedented and it is not surprising that some of the fastest growing cities in the world are also here. Our data already shows that residents and visitors in each of these new cities have been eagerly waiting for Uber for sometime now and we expect to see a similar response here. Our focus on continuously leading the way on safety and creating thousands of new entrepreneurs will drive our growth ahead”said Neeraj Singhal, Head of Expansion for India & the Subcontinent, Uber.

He said, Uber is set to have a transformational impact in these 7 new markets, similar to that in over 300 cities around the world. Uber is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs, help decongest roads, improve the safety, quality and convenience of transportation, foster entrepreneurship at the grassroots, and give women flexible, equitable earning opportunities, and help law enforcement authorities harness the power of technology to make roads safer.
New users of Uber can download the Uber app, sign up using the promo code ‘INDIA18’ and get three free rides worth Rs 200 each. This offer is valid until July 15th for new users only. The company however, cautions users that there will be limited availability of cabs during the launch phase with longer ETAs (expected time of arrival) than usual.
