Representatives of three different unions at the Shahgunj unit of Dunlop on Monday met the West Bengal Labour Minister, Mr Purnendu Basu, seeking a possible resolution to the impasse there.
The Dunlop management had on October 8 decided to suspend operations at the Shahgunj unit in Hooghly district of West Bengal citing repeated incidents of workers' agitations and law and order problems.
Calling the unit as a “crisis-ridden” one, the State Labour Minister said: “The government will do what it can in this regard. Talks with the union representatives were held earnestly. Re-opening the unit remains our priority.”
According to the Minister, a tripartite meeting is expected to be held after October 21 following a meeting of the board of director members of Dunlop management. The Dunlop management is likely to meet the State Government on October 21.
The representatives today handed over a seven-point charter that includes withdrawal of the suspension of work notice and clearing employee dues as their primary demands. Provident fund and gratuity dues of retired employees also need to be cleared by the management, the memorandum stated.
