VA Tech Wabag wins ₹ 580-cr order in Bahrain

VA Tech Wabag has a bagged a ₹580-crore order for a sewage treatment plant in Bahrain.

According to information provided by Wabag to the BSE, the company has bagged the EPC contract to set up a 40-million-litre-a-day sewage treatment plant in Al Madina Al Shamaliya, a new town being developed in Bahrain.

The project funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Economic Development will be designed and built by Wabag for Bahrain’s Ministry of Housing.

The company has bagged the contract jointly with its partner Belhasa Projects. Wabag is present in Bahrain through its subsidiary for handling operation and maintenance business.

The STP order is its first EPC contract in Bahrain.

The new town is being developed on 750 hectares of reclaimed land spread over 13 islands off the north coast of Bahrain.

Joint project

The township will have about 15,000 residences and space for business and recreation.

The sewage treatment plant with tertiary treatment and sludge treatment will recycle water to meet the irrigation needs of the township.
