The Vedanta group of companies on Wednesday said it supports the Prime Minister’s ‘Give It Up’ campaign and urged employees to opt out of LPG Subsidy scheme.
“ The ‘Opt out of LPG Subsidy’ scheme has our support, and we have encouraged the members of the Vedanta family to help achieve the target of 1 crore people giving up LPG subsidies by the end of the financial year,” said Anil Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta group.
Recently, the Tata Group had also sent a similar request to its employees.
The PM while addressing the Urja Sangam, an international energy summit in New Delhi last week in Delhi, had said that the voluntary surrender of subsidized LPG cylinders has helped the government to save Rs 100 crore so far.
The subsidy burden to the Indian government was more than Rs 40,000 crore during 2013-14.
