Videocon Mobile Services is investing Rs 800 crore in the current financial year in Gujarat to achieve a commanding position in the State, a company official said on Wednesday.
The company, which suffered a loss of Rs 10,000 crore due to cancellation of licence in the wake of the 2-G scam, resumed operations early this year with the focus on GPRS, which has been an important factor in increasing its subscriber base. It has invested about Rs 400 crore on making its services accessible in Gujarat and will spend as much in the remaining part of 2013-14, said Arvind Bali, Director and CEO, here.
Videocon registered the second highest number of new subscribers in May and June in Gujarat, thus increasing its total subscriber number in the State to 8.5 lakh. About 20 to 25 per cent of new subscribers were migrants from other service providers who have availed of mobile number portability (MNP) facility. This was a five-fold increase in MNP subscribers in the last two months, he said.
With this spurt in its Gujarat territory, Videocon is increasing the number of its sites from nearly 4,100 to 4,650 this year and has already completed 85 per cent of this work.
He said Videocon would shortly introduce new marketing concepts such as ‘Young Manch’ and ‘Super Jodi’ as promotional exercises.
