Vipul Chaudhary was today unanimously elected as the Chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), a Rs 11,660-crore turnover entity that markets products under the popular brand ‘Amul’.
Chaudhary, who is the Chairman of Mehsana-based Doodhsagar Dairy, which is among the 16 union members of GCMMF, replaces Parthi Bhatol.
Bhatol, who also heads Banas Dairy in Banaskantha district, completed his term as the federation chairman in June.
According to GCMMF sources, Chaudhary’s name was proposed by the outgoing chairman and he was elected unopposed.
“I thank the government for being a guiding force,” Chaudhary said.
He said the federation would be providing cattle feed for one lakh animals daily at 50 per cent rates in the scarcity affected regions of Saurashtra and Kutch.
It would soon initiate proceedings for the takeover of assets of Gujarat Dairy Development Board (GDDB) from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
“It is unfortunate that GCMMF could not take over the responsibility of GDDB assets, but now we shall acquire them from NDDB...,” Chaudhary said.
In mid-July, the Gujarat High Court had directed the District Collector of Anand, where the federation is headquartered, to complete the election of GCMMF Chairman within 30 days.
