The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) produced 2.55 lakh tonnes of saleable steel during August, registering a growth of 1.6 per cent compared to the corresponding period of last year, according to a press release. Special efforts were made to increase coke production which resulted average oven coke pushings of 314, the best for any month since inception.
A major thrust was given to energy efficiency, particularly reduction of coke rate. This resulted in a rate reduction to 522 kg a tonne compared to 529 kg a tonne in July. Efforts to augment captive power generation resulted in 7 per cent increase when compared to the corresponding period last year. In line with the focused initiatives for improving operational efficiency, convertor-1 registered a lining life of 6,077 heats, the best since inception for the convertor.
The VSP achieved turnover of Rs 4,847 crore during April-August against Rs 3,573 crore during the corresponding period last year, a growth of 36 per cent. This includes Rs.1,117 crore during August against MoU target of Rs 900 crore. The VSP also achieved by-product sale of Rs 174 crore up to August against Rs 145 crore, a growth of 20 per cent when compared to the same period last year.
