Beauty and wellness brand VLCC is set to enter the European markets in 2016, according to Vandana Luthra, the founder.

On a visit to the local centre of the VLCC, she spoke to BusinessLine , on Tuesday. She said the company had made its presence felt in West Asia and had entered Africa by opening a branch in Kenya.

She said the industry was growing at a healthy 20-22 per cent and so was VLCC. “The industry gives immense scope for women to become entrepreneurs and it empowers them. No formal qualification is required,” she said.

Luthra said she had opened her first wellness centre in New Delhi way back in 1989 and the company had made huge strides over the past 25 years. “At that time, the industry was in its nascent stage and now it has grown enormously. The lack of skilled personnel is one of the constraints. We, on our part, are doing our bit for skill development in the sector,” she said.

She said the company was manufacturing 126 products, most of them herbal, and it had three units in India and one in Singapore and one in Switzerland. “VLCC is a global brand now and we are making inroads into new markets,” she added.

A concern She said obesity was proving to be a huge problem in India and adolescent obesity is a matter of concern. “India is said to be the third most obese nation in the world after the US and China and we have to take preventive care,” she said.
