Coal India Ltd (CIL) on Thursday said that short supply of wagons was hampering its ability to supply coal to different power stations. While climatic conditions, primarily heavy rainfall in August and September, affected supply to thermal power stations, coal supply improved to daily requirement levels in the following months.
According to a company release, CIL said that it was prepared to load 200 rakes daily, of which 155 rakes could be used for supply to power stations. However, the company is currently faced with a short supply of wagons. Instead of 200 rakes, it gets an average of 186 rakes of which 148 are sent to the power stations.
While “unprecedented rainfall in August and September” had affected supply of coal to 89 thermal power stations, the supply improved to “the level of daily requirement” in October, November and December.
“The percentage materialisation of coal supply to the power stations against the commitment as per Fuel Supply Agreement/ MoUs in the months of October, November, December (up to 20{+t}{+h}) have been 88 per cent, 96 per cent and 103 per cent. The percentage growth in power generation compared to the same period till November lat year has been 8.8 per cent,” the company said in a release.
