Wartsila India, the Indian arm of Finland-based Wartsila Corporation, has signed an MoU with Cochin Shipyard Ltd for setting up a containerised self-sufficient workshop.
The workshop, which will be set up in the CSL premises, will primarily cater to propeller blade metallurgical repairs and engine component repairs. The company also plans to support CSL with comprehensive engine, propulsion, and electrical & automation services based on the latter’s requirements.
The MoU was signed by Sunny Thomas, Director (Technical & Operations), Cochin Shipyard Ltd, and James Rajan, Director, Service Unit, South Asia, Wartsila India.
With this MoU, the yard is expected to attract more ship-repair business at its present facility. The agreement also gives Wartsila an opportunity to set up an Original Equipment Manufacturer centre in the Cochin Port Trust area. CSL had taken over the existing ship-repair facility in the Port Trust area through a lease agreement, a release said.
