Welspun Energy Limited (WEL), leading renewable energy company and independent power producers (IPP), has been selected for the Asian Power Award for being one of the most innovative power producers in Asia for their 15 megawatt (MW) solar power project at Anjar in Kutch district of Gujarat.
Vineet Mittal, Managing Director, WEL, said in a statement on Friday that the Anjar project won the Award in the ‘Solar Power Project of the Year’ category at the Asian Power Awards 2012, also known as the ‘Oscars’ of the power industry, held recently at Bangkok, Thailand.
The selection procedure aims to identify companies striving for quality and excellence in their respective categories.
WEL is part of the $3.5 billion Welspun Group, with business interests in power generation, infrastructure, exploration and production of oil and natural gas, steel pipes and textiles. WEL is setting up 750 MW of solar power and 1 GW of wind power plants across India.
